Enter Though the Narrow Gate

Enter Though the Narrow Gate

A Midnight Thoughts

There are moments in the stillness of the night
When the world grows quiet
and the heart finally begins to speak.

These reflections are born in those quiet hours
when distractions fade,
when questions linger longer,
and when faith is tested and refined.

Welcome to Midnight Thoughts,
shared breath by breath
through the journey of living with ALS.

Tonight’s reflection is called.
“Enter Through the Narrow Gate.”

It’s a reminder that the path God calls us to walk
isn’t always the easiest
but it is the one that leads to life.

A Road in the Darkness

It’s five o’clock in the morning.
In the quiet darkness, I imagine myself on a long, lonely road.

The night feels heavy.

There is chaos all around
cars speeding past,
horns blaring,
lights flashing in confusion.

Along the roadside, I see exit signs glowing faintly through the haze:

Greed.
Lust.
Hatred.
Envy.

Each exit is wrapped in darkness.
No peace.
No rest.

And yet, so many take those turns.

The wide road is crowded and loud
but it offers no peace.

The Exit Marked Rest

Then—far ahead—I notice one more exit.

The road to it is narrow,
but it shines with a warm, golden light.

The sign reads simply: Rest.

I’m tired.
Tired of the noise.
Tired of the confusion.
Tired of the endless drive through the dark.

So I turn toward the light.

Sometimes rest isn’t found by stopping
but by choosing a different path.

Through the Narrow Gate

The narrow road leads me to a small gate.

Above it, a sign reads:
Welcome — Rest for the Weary.

I step through, and instantly love surrounds me—
soft, pure, and complete.

At the end of a long hall stands a cross.

I walk toward it and kneel,
the weight of my journey finally falling away.

Then I feel a gentle hand on my shoulder,
and a voice whispers:

I love you.
Welcome home, my child.
I’ve been waiting for you.

In that moment, every ache,
every fear,
every shadow fades.

I have found the peace
I was searching for all along.

What Jesus Taught About the Narrow Gate

Jesus said in Matthew 7:13–14:

“Enter through the narrow gate.
For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads away from life, and many enter through it.
But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

For those of us living with ALS,
this truth carries deep meaning.

We can find real rest
not just for the body,
but for the soul.

Rest from stress.
Rest from fear.
Rest from the weight of negative emotions.

Jesus offers a peace
that the wide road never can.

Choosing the Narrow Way

The narrow gate doesn’t promise comfort.
It doesn’t offer shortcuts.
And it doesn’t follow the crowd.

But it leads to truth.
It leads to life.
And it leads us straight
into the presence of God.

If you’re walking a difficult road tonight
if the wide path looks tempting,
and the narrow way feels lonely
remember this:

God walks the narrow path with you.
